Men don’t think enough about the woman’s pleasure. I never go to bed thinking, ‘Great, I’m going to have an orgasm,’ but I think men do.
From the August issue of Elle, featuring the delectable Emma Watson (who looks less than delectable, unfortunately, on the cover – but fact is fact).

The stereotype of men as sexually inconsiderate and selfish really, really irritates me.

To be honest in my posting of this quote, I wasn’t attempting to reinforce either of those stereotypes; the point is (and here’s the science bit) men are much more likely to orgasm than women are, in general. So when a man gets into bed with a woman it is taken for granted that he will come; he doesn’t have to worry about it. For a woman it’s more of a shot in the dark, if you’ll pardon the pun. She may come, but, for the majority of women, it is more likely that she won’t. It takes a lot of effort, effort that men – more often than not – don’t put in, probably because it’s difficult for them to understand, given the aforementioned taken-for-granted orgasming that they’ll be doing at the time.

Say's you!
No, this is you’re opinion, not a fact. It turns woman into a stereotype, as if to say all woman are the same, when they certainly are not. These comments were fabricated. She’s a feminist & would never think that all woman feel the same way.

It is not my opinion. It is science. The female orgasm is more elusive than the male orgasm and it is a small minority of women who orgasm each and every time they have sexual intercourse. That, too, is a fact; look into some scientific studies about male and female sexuality, I couldn’t be bothered quoting them here seeing as you’re obviously not bothered looking at the truth.
Also, being a “feminist” is not the perfect state; saying that because she’s a feminist she would “never think that all women feel the same way” is, quite frankly, BS. Being a feminist doesn’t mean that you can’t (a) accept facts or (b) – going along with your hypothetical little scenario in which this isn’t a fact – refuse to generalise. I’m sure there are feminists who generalise all the time. Feminism is not the sum of all parts of a person.
Oh and one more thing – if you’re going to accuse me of fabricating truths and pasting them as fact, do so in an open manner – I’m assuming that “say’s you” isn’t your name (and I hope it’s not; it’s one thing to be grammatically incorrect in life, but quite another thing to be so on one’s birth cert).

Say's you!
I’m talking about individual people, not science. People are not robots determined by scientific results. It varies, you’re point is that men are incapable and woman are never satisfied! That’s just going to make some people angry. Why don’t you just worry about you’re own pleasure, and stop being pissed off.

I’m not talking about individual people, so we are at an impass. I was commenting on a quote from Lily Allen that resonated with me, and made me think about how for men, during sex, it’s easy sometimes to kind of forget about the woman’s pleasure because yours is, more often than not, a sure thing. That is about the sum total of it.
If you want to get into a discussion about my pleasure, we can do so, but that’s not what this post was about. I am discussing women and men, in general, not any specific people. “People are not robots” – excellent point, though, I never would’ve figured that out on my own.

Say's you!
obvious you can’t think of that on you’re own, you can’t see people as individual, you based you’re information on science (as you said) Either way you’re article sounds very cold and unfeeling. …. where does the quote come from?
July 6, 2009 at 11:49 pm
rosemarymaccabe
It’s not an “article”, it’s a quote and a reference. The quote is, as the reference says, from the August issue of Elle magazine and is, as the headline says, by Lily Allen.
I don’t quite know what the rest of your last comment means to be honest; I’m not trying to sound cold and unfeeling, I’m trying to say, these are the facts, and the more that I comment on it, the more I kind of feel an empathy for the man’s side – that it’s difficult to understand the female orgasm in a way, because it’s not guaranteed, because it’s so “other”. I could talk about it in personal terms or in terms of individuals, but I chose not to. That’s my prerogative.
Anyway, as I said, it was a quote, followed by a reference. I didn’t base anything on anything until I was accused of turning women into stereotypes. If women are being turned into stereotypes by that quote, it’s Lily Allen who did it, and I don’t believe that was either the intention or the effect of her words.

Has ‘Say’s you!’ crawled back under whatever pathetic rock he appeared from?? Let’s hope so…

@Marie, interestingly I didn’t assume that Say’s You was a man. Had assumed it was a woman, but…. Say’s You, which is it (out of interest)?

Scientific “”EXPERIMENTS” are not based on fact.

Say's you!
You wrote an article about Lily Allen”s video F*ck you. In that article you claimed that the song was about George W. Bush. Lily Allen’’s My Space page reads that it is intended for the British National Party, she intentionally changed the name of the song from Guess who Batman, to F- you because it was an assumption by the tabloids that it was meant to be about George W. Bush. You went on about .. something and ended the article by writing that Lily Allen always says the opposite of what she means, obviously you didn’t find out from anyone else but a tabloid magazine. The above quote can not be found in Elle magazine on the computer (at this time) However the same quote was found on a gossip blog so that is an indication of where you’re information comes from.. the tabloids!! which lily allen has nothing to do with.

@Say’s You, scientific experiments are based on, eh, science, which is fact. I’m not entering into a debate with you about science vs creationism or whatever it is you’re going for with this line. Science and maths are about the most objective facts you’ll get in this life: scientific studies of sexual behaviour have shown, definitively (and experience will probably have cemented this for you) that men orgasm easier than women do; that is, the female orgasm is slightly more complicated thing.
If you don’t think scientific experiments are based on fact, what are they based on?
Then following your second comment. I wrote a BLOG POST (not “article”) on Lily Allen’s Fuck You. I said it was about George W Bush because that was what I have read, several times. It may also be about the BNP, but it makes more sense to be about Bush – check out the lyrics.
Please find me the quote where I said Lily Allen always says the opposite of what she means. I don’t know why I’m engaging in this really, as I quite like Lily Allen, and in general think she’s quite intelligent and, unlike a lot of female “stars”, knows what she’s talking about – or at least believes it, which is half the battle. In that piece on Fuck You, I wrote that I didn’t understand why her LABEL had allowed her to release the song if they were then going to pair it with an entirely inane video.
You are putting words into my mouth or onto my screen or whatever, and to be honest I won’t be having it. The quote that we began this conversation talking about is in the August issue of UK Elle. You can buy the magazine if you’re that concerned with proving how wrong I am.
Oh and hint: gossip blogs pick up on quotes from magazines. That’s also a fact.

Say's you!
I don’t have to find it, for you, you wrote it! Remember? People will read it (here’s a clue) It’s the blog about Lily Allen were you ended it with who cares.

Ah, I see now. You are referring to the piece I wrote about Lily Allen’s The Fear, and not Fuck You. So the confusion is really (shockingly) all yours. But I understand now. I stand by what I said. Read it again, it makes sense. And I didn’t say that Allen ALWAYS says the opposite of what she means; I said that the song, The Fear, was difficult to understand because she seems to be taking the piss out of what she actually does. This might be too complicated a concept for you to grasp but, frankly, I don’t care any more. You are griping at me for the sake of griping and, unless you are Lily Allen’s number one fan, I don’t see why you care all that much.

The subject is that you’re a lousy, hack, that doesn’t do enough research. I read both articles.

My blog is a blog, not a newspaper. They are opinions, backed up by fact but sometimes just opinions. This particular piece, to reiterate, was a quote by Lily Allen that then became a discussion about the difference between the male and female orgasm and, somehow, the fact that Lily Allen would NEVER say something and do another and would NEVER make a generalisation. (Both of which statements came from you and I do not believe to be true.)
I don’t need to do research to write opinion pieces; they’re called opinions for a reason. Do you have a blog that you’d like to direct me to where you research every subject thoroughly and write only 100% fact? Or, do you even have a name? It’s really brave to go on somebody’s blog and fling insults at them while protecting your own identity.
I’d block you but I really don’t think your namecalling is doing me any harm so I won’t bother.

Oh and PS, you are referring to three pieces I wrote about Lily Allen, not two. This one, the one on Fuck You, and the one on The Fear. Wow, guess you didn’t do your research either. . .

@Kilburn U.K. (who, for anyone who cares, is the one and only “Say’s You” rebranded and repackaged for a new day), well said! I’ve really been put in my place: you’ve refuted my every argument, backed it up with well-argued points and seriously made me regret those four lines I wrote about Lily, two of which were a quote*. Jeez, colour me ashamed!
*This may not be true.
